🌊 HOTREC, in partnership with Hotel Resilient, introduces Crisis Resilient Guidelines to aid hotels, restaurants, bars, cafés, and nightlife venues in preparing for and recovering from natural disasters like heatwaves, floods, windstorms, droughts, and forest fires. The guidelines focus on guest and staff safety, ensuring business continuity and fast recovery. Comprising nine key criteria across three areas, the voluntary guidelines also align with local and national laws for operational crisis resilience.

HOTREC 89th General Assembly

🏠 Alexandros Vassilikos was unanimously re-elected as President of HOTREC in Warsaw. Morten Thorvaldsen (Norway) became Vice-President, Adrian Cummins (Ireland) Treasurer, and Sami Nisametdin (Finland) Chair of SSD. Launch of the European Employers Institute

📊 Thirteen sectoral employers' organisations formed the European Employers' Institute (EEI) to bolster competitiveness amid economic challenges and an ageing population. The Brussels-based EEI, including Ceemet and ECEG among others, will research common interests to influence EU social and employment policy. The Draghi Report shows that nearly 70% of European workers favour government AI restrictions to protect jobs. EU employers' AI adoption lags, with Dutch employers' 75% citing lack of knowledge, and 40% finding it inapplicable. The EEI advocates for balanced employment policies.

🏦 The EU's Action Plan on Skills and Labour shortages, adopted on 20 March 2024, addresses labour and skills gaps in Member States, especially post-pandemic in sectors like hospitality. It includes five policy areas: activating underrepresented groups, supporting skills and education alignment, improving work conditions, promoting intra-EU mobility, and attracting non-EU talent. European Year of Skills saw over 2000 events, the Pact for Skills reaching 2500 members, and campaigns touching 69 million via social media. The tourism sector can utilize funds like the €99 billion European Social Fund Plus (2021-2027), the Recovery and Resilience Facility with 13% budget for education/training until 2026, and the €26.2 billion Erasmus+ program.
