Marriott and VERKEHRSBUERO to convert five hotels in Austria

🏦 Marriott International and VERKEHRSBUERO HOSPITALITY sign an agreement to convert five Austria Trend Hotels into Marriott-branded properties, adding more than 1,100 rooms to Marriott's Austrian presence. The rebranding includes the debut of Four Points Flex by Sheraton in Austria and the historic Parkhotel Schönbrunn joining the Tribute Portfolio. Expected transitions: Four Points Flex by Sheraton Vienna Hauptbahnhof by Q3 2025, Four Points Flex by Sheraton Vienna Mariahilf by 2026, and more. Leonardo Hotels expands in the Rhine-Main Region with a new hotel in Mainz

🏨 Leonardo Hotels Central Europe to open Leonardo Mainz in August 2025, marking its seventh hotel in the Rhine-Main region, Germany. Ascend Collection marks global growth and unveils new logo

Portugal’s tourism landscape in transition: Growth, pressure, and urban shifts

🏖 In 2024, Portugal's tourism sector saw a 4.0% rise in overnight stays, a 5.2% increase in total guests (31.6 million), and an 8.8% boost in tourism revenue. International visitors reached 19.4 million, a 6.3% increase. The first half of 2024 reported a 7.5% year-on-year increase in hotel stays with over 14 million guests. Portuguese airports handled 6.7 million passengers in June alone, a 5.6% year-on-year increase. In 2022, Portugal's GDP grew by 6.8%. The resident population was approximately 10.6 million at the end of 2023, while non-resident tourists numbered 26.5 million in the same year.

Sunday by OYO grows with new UK conversions

🏡 OYO, under Oravel Stays Ltd, has signed lease agreements for six former Mercure hotels in the UK, expanding its upscale Sunday brand. The properties are located in Cardiff, Warwick, Dorking, Staines, Exeter, and Winchester, following the Lansbury Heritage Hotel opening in Canary Wharf in September 2024. The Sunday brand was introduced in 2023. These properties are expected to draw 65,000 international guests annually, with over 30% of bookings from overseas. OYO operates around 200 properties across 65 UK cities and aims to grow the Sunday brand to 25 properties worldwide by spring 2025. The company saw a 15% revenue increase in 2024.

Spark by Hilton expands in Germany with new Wuppertal location

This expansion aligns with Aspire Group's strategy of urban hotel repositioning and the market trend of revitalising city-centre hotels under midscale international brands. Spark by Hilton targets business and leisure guests, emphasizing operational simplicity and standardized services.
