Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, Meliá Hotels founder, dies at 89

🏨 Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, founder of Meliá Hotels International, died at 89 on November 26. He started the company in Majorca in 1956 at 21. Today, Meliá boasts over 400 hotels in 40+ countries. In 2016, his son Gabriel Escarrer Jaume became chairman and CEO. Juliá received numerous honors, including from Spain and the Balearic Islands. He opened pioneering properties in the Mexican Caribbean, Bali, and Cuba, and is survived by six children and 20 grandchildren.

Wyndham launches ninth brand in India

🏡 Wyndham opens the first Wyndham Garden hotel in India, the Wyndham Garden Sonipat Murthal in Haryana, operated by Rajdhani Realcon Pvt. Ltd. Blackstone snaps up Grand Hyatt Athens for €235M

🏡 Blackstone Real Estate acquired Grand Hyatt Athens from Henderson Park and Hines for €235 million. YOTEL expands Asian footprint with hotel in Tokyo

ARRIVE by Palisociety to open in Albuquerque

Aleph Hospitality enters into Morocco with two luxury hotels

Hyatt strengthens Caribbean portfolio with Dreams resort in the Dominican Republic

Mohari, Omnam acquire historic Bauer Hotel in Venice

🏦 Mohari Hospitality acquired Venice's iconic Bauer Hotel, partnering with Omnam Investment Group. The Bauer, located in the San Marco district on the Grand Canal, will be restored; Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will operate it. Mohari reportedly offered €309 million, outbidding LVMH's founder. The hotel was previously owned by Signa. Mohari's portfolio includes recent acquisitions in Paris and Madrid.
