CordValle hires Alissa O’Briant with 20+ years' experience as their director. Loews Ventana Canyon Resort brings on Ryan Clark with 20+ years' culinary background as executive chef. Hotel La Jolla, part of Curio Collection by Hilton, selects Ernest Lopez as executive chef. Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique, opening spring 2025, appoints Nicolas Piatti as executive chef. Naples Grande Beach Resort designates Jose Garcia as chef de cuisine. Hotel Revival Baltimore announces Jasmine Garland as director of impact. The Shelborne by Proper, opening 2025, appoints Guy Chetwynd as managing director, Mariannie Santiago as general manager, and Oliver Morgan as director of sales and marketing.

Historic Inn at Warner Hall Acquired by BluWater Group

🏠 BluWater Group, based in Orlando, Florida, acquired the Inn at Warner Hall in Gloucester, Virginia. The Inn, founded in 1642, features 11 rooms on a 38-acre estate and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Previously owned by Troy and Theresa Stavens, the property has historical ties to George Washington's great-great-grandfather. The Inn will undergo a two-month renovation starting January 4, including restaurant upgrades. Former owners foresee BluWater honoring its legacy.

Hyatt Discloses Exclusive Discussions with Playa Hotels & Resorts N.V.

👤 CHICAGO, Illinois—Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced an exclusivity agreement with Playa Hotels & Resorts N.V. (NASDAQ: PLYA) for potential strategic alternatives, including a possible acquisition. Mark S. Hoplamazian, President and CEO of Hyatt, highlighted Playa's strong operation of all-inclusive resorts and quality portfolio. Hyatt, owning 9.99% of Playa's outstanding shares, has filed an amendment to its Schedule 13D with the SEC. No further comments will be made until a definitive agreement is reached.

AHLA Closes Out 2024 With Record-High 33 Partnerships

📢 In 2024, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) reached a record 33 active partnership agreements. Key new partners include DIRECTV HOSPITALITY (gold partner) and silver partners The Coca-Cola Company, Cvent, Jacaruso Enterprises, and LG Electronics USA. AHLA members exceed 30,000, encompassing 80% of franchised hotels and the 16 largest U.S. hotel companies. DIRECTV HOSPITALITY will support major AHLA events, with The Coca-Cola Company’s portfolio expanding over 138 years. Cvent, since 1999, will sponsor event technology, and Jacaruso Enterprises offers sales services and training. LG Electronics USA provides smart hotel TVs ranging from 43 to 86 inches for the U.S. hospitality industry.

U.S. Hotel Results for Week Ending Dec. 14

🏨 In the U.S. hotel industry, a year-over-year performance increase was reported for Dec. 8-14, 2024, with occupancy up by 8.5% at 59.5%, ADR rising 8.9% to $155.21, and RevPAR growing 18.2% to $92.32. Tampa saw the largest occupancy boost to 84.7% (+33.3%), New York City had the highest ADR increase to $510.13 (+30.1%), and Washington, D.C. experienced the greatest RevPAR jump to $151.18 (+67.6%). San Francisco was the exception, with a RevPAR decline of 16.4% to $131.08.

AHLA Applauds CR’s Lodging Fee-Transparency Provision; Urges Swift Passage

🏨 In Washington, DC, American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) President & CEO Rosanna Maietta welcomed the inclusion of AHLA-backed fee-transparency legislation in a federal continuing resolution. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also announced a fee-disclosure rule for the lodging industry. The legislation aims to create a nationwide standard for up-front, inclusive pricing for hotel stays, countering hidden fees. Presently, only 6% of U.S. hotels charge mandatory fees averaging $26 per night.
